Orders

What a customer agrees to buy, confirmed and ready to bill.

A confirmed order is what a billing app, such as Finance, invoices.

How it works

An order is a Document: a draft has no number, and confirming it makes it final. You draft an order on its own, or from a quote the customer accepted. To draft from a quote, click Create order from sources on the Orders list and choose the quote. The order copies the quote's lines.

Confirm order numbers the order, such as SO-7, and makes it final. Cancel order cancels a confirmed order. It stays final, now canceled.

When Finance is installed, you draft an invoice from a confirmed order, which copies its lines.

Document: final once committed; a new document corrects it.

Actions

  • Create order from sources. Drafts an order from one or more committed records it comes from: each of their lines, or the lines you name with any values you give them, each naming the line it came from, and what it shares by name with every source where they agree, with the values you give its own fields.
  • Confirm order. Confirms a draft order: numbers it and makes it final, so it can be billed.
  • Cancel order. Cancels a confirmed order; it stays final, now canceled.
