# Orders

> What a customer agrees to buy, confirmed and ready to bill.

A confirmed order is what a billing app, such as Finance, invoices.

## How it works

An order is a [Document](/docs/concepts/records/documents): a draft has no number, and confirming it
makes it final. You draft an order on its own, or from a [quote](/docs/apps/sales/quotes) the customer accepted.
To draft from a quote, click **Create order from sources** on the **Orders** list and choose the
quote. The order copies the quote's lines.

**Confirm order** numbers the order, such as SO-7, and makes it final. **Cancel order** cancels a
confirmed order. It stays final, now canceled.

When Finance is installed, you draft an [invoice](/docs/apps/finance/invoices) from a confirmed
order, which copies its lines.
