Activity and history
Every record keeps its story: what changed, who did it, for whom, and why.
Open any record's Activity tab to see its story. Changes by people, integrations, and Continual are recorded the same way.
The Activity tab
Open any record, such as a deal or an invoice. Activity is its first tab. It lists what happened, oldest first, so the newest entry sits by the comment box at the bottom. Choose to load earlier entries, and the tab updates as the record changes.
| Entry | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Actions | A create, a delete, or a named Action such as issuing an invoice |
| Edits | Each field someone changed, from its old value to its new one |
| Links | Records this one started or stopped pointing at |
| Related | Other records that started or stopped pointing at this one |
| Posts | Comments and email messages about the record, in full |
| Automation | What the system concluded or changed, such as marking a project Late |
A change reads as one line, such as "changed stage from Qualified to Proposal", with when it happened.
Who, for whom, and why
Every change records four things:
| What | Example |
|---|---|
| Who made it | A member, or a service account such as Continual or an integration |
| For whom | The person Continual acted on behalf of |
| Why | The record the change was made for, such as Continual's run |
| When | When Continual recorded it; an email also shows when it was sent |
When Continual drafts a quote for you, the quote's Activity shows that Continual created it, on your behalf, because of its run. Open the run to see each step Continual took.
Comments
Write a comment in the box below Activity to note a decision, a question, or a next step. A reply answers a comment, one level deep. Anyone who can read the record can read its comments, and only the author can take one back. See posts.
History behind the Activity
Each time a record changes, Continual keeps a numbered revision of it as it was after the change.
- Only real changes count. Saving a value that is already there adds nothing.
- A deleted record keeps its history, with its last values.
- A final Document never changes. A correction is a new record, such as the reversing entry a voided invoice posts, and both stay in the history.
Developers can read revisions and events, and restore earlier values, through the REST API.
