# Send a quote

> Draft a quote for a customer, send it to make it final, then record whether they accepted.

Sending a quote numbers it and makes it final, so check the draft first. A quote is a record in the
[Sales app](/docs/apps/sales).

<Callout type="warning">
  **Send quote** numbers the quote and makes it final. It does not email the
  customer. Share the quote with them yourself.
</Callout>

## Draft and send the quote

    <Steps>
      <Step title="Ask for the quote">
        In your thread, write what to quote, such as "Quote Northwind Health 20
        seats of the annual plan for the expansion deal."
      </Step>
      <Step title="Check the draft">
        Continual drafts the quote and shows it beside the thread. Ask for
        changes in the thread, such as "Make it 25 seats."
      </Step>
      <Step title="Tell Continual to send it">
        Write "Send it." Sending makes the quote final, so by default Continual
        asks first. Choose **Decide**, check the input, then choose **Approve**.
      </Step>

  <Tab title="In the app">

      <Step title="Open Quotes">
        Choose **Records** in the sidebar, then **Sales › Quotes**.

      <Step title="Create the quote">
        Choose **New quote**, or press <Kbd>C</Kbd>. Choose the **Customer**,
        and the **Deal** it prices if there is one.
      </Step>
      <Step title="Add its lines">
        Add a line for each thing the customer could buy, with its
        **Description**, **Quantity**, and **Unit price**. The quote's **Total**
        adds them up. Set **Valid until** if the offer expires.
      </Step>
      <Step title="Send it">
        On the draft quote, choose **Send quote**, then **Send quote** again to
        confirm.
      </Step>
    </Steps>

The quote moves from **Draft** to **Sent** and gets its number. It is final: its
lines and total no longer change.

<TryAsking
  prompts={[
    "Draft a quote for the Northwind Health fleet analytics expansion deal.",
    "Which quotes have we sent that nobody has answered?",
    "Northwind Health accepted their quote. Draft the order from it.",
  ]}
/>

## Record the customer's answer

When the customer answers, open the quote:

- If they said yes, choose **Accept quote**. The quote moves to **Accepted**.
- If they said no, open the record's menu and choose **Decline quote**. The quote moves to
  **Declined**.

You can also tell Continual, such as "Northwind Health accepted their quote."

## Turn an accepted quote into an order

An order is what the customer agrees to buy. Ask Continual to "Draft an order from Northwind Health's accepted quote." It
copies the quote's lines into a draft order. To do it yourself, open **Sales › Orders** and choose
**Create order from sources…**, with the quote as the source.

On the draft order, choose **Confirm order** to make it final. Finance can then
[invoice it](/docs/guides/invoice-a-customer).
