# Conversations

> An email thread in a connected mailbox, as Gmail reports it.

A conversation is one email thread in a connected mailbox. It holds the thread's
[messages](/docs/apps/inbox/messages).

## How it works

The sync sets each conversation's subject, a snippet, its participants, the time of its last
message, whether it is unread or still in the inbox, and its Gmail labels. The **Recent** view lists
conversations by their last message, newest first.

A conversation belongs to the connection it came from, and only people who can read that mailbox
see it. A thread you delete in Gmail is deleted from Continual too.
